Does Your Automobile Insurance Really Protect You? -
Why Supplementary Coverage is Important
by: Howard B. Cohen
We see too many cases where our client's injuries could not be fairly compensated because the driver at fault had little or no coverage.
You can purchase supplementary Unisured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage, called SUM coverage, which protects you and your passengers for injuries caused by another driver with little or no liability coverage.
Most people are unaware that they have this gap in their own insurance plan. It is one of the few types of coverage you purchase that actually protects you! Unfortunately, many people have only minimal protection and that is a mistake!
Interestingly, SUM coverage also happens to be one of the least expensive options on an automobile insurance policy. Most folks spend a lot more on collision coverage than they do on SUM coverage. We suggest you review this coverage option with your insurance agent and increase your SUM coverage to the highest amount possible. In some circumstances, you may have to raise your existing limits of liability insurance coverage.
